0 Become a Homeward Pet VolunteerIt takes a lot of work and hard-working people to find new homes for over 1,400 animals a year.
We are not able to help these animals without the support of dedicated and compassionate volunteers. At any one time, there are 150-200 volunteers donating their time to assist in the direct care of the animals, education, administrative projects and offsite events.

Cat Care volunteers are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the cat rooms and socializing the cats during their stay. It will be hard not to fall in love with each of the sweet characters that come through our doors, but it is reassuring that they’ll all end up in loving forever homes after their time at Homeward.

Dog Care volunteers help keep our dogs healthy and happy in a clean, safe environment until they are adopted. You’ll have any number of new best friends after each of your shifts — plan to receive unconditional love in return for the walks, treats, and belly rubs administered while volunteering with dogs.
Reception volunteers are responsible for welcoming visitors to the shelter. This position has the opportunity to be the public face of HPAC and requires strong people and telephone skills. There is often a need for more administrative duties as well.

Street Team volunteers work in an established territory to help post fliers and maintain donation barrels. Street Teamers are essential to helping spread the word about Homeward Pet throughout our communities — and this job is a great way for the whole family to be involved.

Groups: If you are a member of a group, team, company or service organization that would like to participate in a one day volunteer project with Homeward Pet, we would be happy to have you. By arranging in advance with our Volunteer Manager, you could spend a day at the shelter helping with any number of projects to better the surroundings for our temporary residents.

Foster Care is one major way we are able to learn more about the cats and dogs that come through our doors. Often found as strays, we have no background information on their likes, dislikes, habits and tendencies. By going into foster care, cats and dogs reveal themselves in a way that would not be immediately obvious in a shelter setting. This helps our Adoption Counselors better identify good matches between adopting families and the cats and dogs who need them — making their new home their forever home!

To find out more about how you can help make a hands-on difference in Homeward cats & dogs lives, visit our website: www.homewardpet.org under the “Get Involved” tab.
